My parents are originally from Mexico, they came to the U.S speaking very little English. To this day, English is still their second language. Growing up, I have had to help translate things from Spanish to English. When my dad has to fill out paperwork for work and doesn’t understand, it is up to me to help him through it. When my mom has to run for errands, I have to help her with telling her what items are. Lately, I have had bigger responsibilities. My dad works in a car wash and it has expanded in the past 9 years. Now we must find new materials and products in order to satisfy the client as well as being able to make the workload lighter. I did research for my dad on different products because I knew that he wants the best for the client. I was able to find and look into a foam cannon that was able to help him how many cars he could do in an hour. I have had to help my dad ever since I was 10 years old. At first I would work with him on Saturday’s, but now it is almost everyday after school. Working with him has taught me responsibilities that very few adolescents like me ever get. Now I have been helping with being able to evolve his business. I Have been more active with putting him on the internet with apps like Yelp and Facebook. Not only do I help translate, look for products, and help him was cars, I also have school to balance out. I have been able to maintain a 4.0 throughout my high school career. A lot of this is because of the motivation I feel to help out my family. The same way I have helped translate and with my dads work, I want to both help them out financially as well as being able to move my family forward. I am a first generation student so I hope to set an example for my siblings as well as my cousins. My dads work has taught me that life isn't easy and that without education, we will stay in the same place. I wish to push them forward.
