My Experience With Drafting
When I was first creating my story I was a bit skeptical about how honest I wanted to be. I had a rough idea about what I would like to write but didn’t have a story. My first draft was just me putting my ideas down into a document. I knew that this would set the foundation for my future writing. My next draft had more of a story. I began to realize that there was emotion and story missing in my story so I decided to start getting more creative. My next 2 drafts were pretty good because I was starting to add descriptive writing after I heard a couple other stories. I had 8 drafts all together. The reason why I think I did so many is because I wasn’t enjoying my story.
It wasn’t until my final draft that I felt proud of my story. I remember reading my friend Paula’s story and really being touched by her honesty and description. I then decided to do the same to mine so I began to use more descriptive language and completely rewrote my story. My old story was about me becoming anemic and it interfering with wrestling. I was ok with it but not happy. I decided that for my new story I will still talk about me being anemic but focus the story more on me in general and my relationship with my father. With the amount of drafts we had to do I was really able to create a story that I am proud of. I was able to trust the process and ended up getting a good product from it.
