My mentor didn’t just go into an interview and got a job like I did. She had to go to college in order to get where she is. “I majored in criminology in Law and Society and then graduated from University of California Irvine UCI”. She went to UCI in which she had to work really hard to finish strong. I usually think that college is just school with more responsibilities and a bit of no life. My mentor made me realize that there is more to college. There is a fun social aspect that everyone should take advantage of. “And I would hope you are definitely know I think college is a very broad experience in the sense that it has really positive things. And I think it really makes you cross a person and a transition to you from being a witness say like a child but it transitions you from being in juvenile to some one to an adult.” Now more than ever do I really want to experience college to its full extent. There is always the saying of living in the moment and I am really hoping that college is my moment both academically and socially.
I asked my mentor some questions regarding her job. Since Donald Trump has become president, his administration has changed a lot of regulations regarding immigration. “ it's very interesting because I would say most of the changes occurred within I would say like three months. Everything change. We started getting a bunch of cases where there was the attorney general terminating certain I think I would call them like immigration reliefs or certain rights that we had.” Within months the administration has disrupted immigration and has put a bigger workload on law firms.
Now with more work, there comes stress. She tells me that it is important to find what can relax you. In her office she has essential oils that ease stress. In the interview she told me what her hobbies are and why they help her with work. “I really enjoy reading and hiking. It’s something that has really helped me with the stress levels that we manage at a law firm. So definitely balancing my life with some fun.” I have found my hobbies as well and I rely on them to be happy. With this interview I was able to find the gaps that I have in my life and figure out how to fill them in. I have gained a better insight as to how college is for someone maybe pursuing law as well as how a change in administration can derail an entire process in a law firm.
